November has arrived, which means it is time to start evaluating your current and future health care needs! Open enrollment will officially begin on the 15th of the month and will remain open until March 31st of next year. It is important to think about how your current health plan has fared during the past year so that you can make any necessary changes by finding a new health plan that is better suited for your life. Here are a few important deadlines to keep in mind. The earlier you enroll, the better!
- If you are an early bird, and enroll before December 23rd, your new health plan will kick in on January 1st.
- If you enroll on January 15th, your coverage will start on the 1st of February.
- Coverage will kick in on March 1st if you are enrolled by February 15th.
- Coverage will start on April 1st if you enroll by March 15th.
- Enroll before the 31st of March, and your coverage will begin on May 1st.
Enrollment was originally scheduled to close on February 15th. However, the Obama administration offered and extended the deadline! You are only allowed a gap of 3 consecutive months without coverage before you are fined. With this being said, it is beneficial to enroll as soon as possible. The online format of enrollment has been a concern in the past. Often the website is overloaded with traffic, and causes problems for its users. This was another reason why the deadline was extended.
