We want your family trick or treating outing to be nothing less than perfect, which is why we feel it is necessary to refresh your memories of some vital safety tips.
- Some Halloween costumes present hazards for children. Make sure that your child’s facemask does not restrict visibility and that it is flame resistant. Likewise, you will want to make sure that their costumes make them visible to drivers speeding on the roads. If their costume is black, add reflective tape to the back and have them hold glow sticks or flashlights.
- Always have your cell phone on you and bring the charger, just in case! However, you cannot allow your cell phone to become a distraction. Simply keep your phone stowed away for emergency use.
- Even if it does not match their costume, make sure your child is wearing comfortable shoes that will not hinder their ability to complete the trick or treating route.
- Speaking of a trick or treating route, you must make one! This will ensure that you do not navigate in dangerous areas or unnecessarily extend the length of your evening.
- Your child is going to indulge in candy no matter what, but it is your responsibility to check the candy to make sure everything is safe. Make sure to dispose of any homemade candy wrappers.
- Most importantly, remain aware of your surroundings at all times.
