Know what to do when you come down with the flu!
You’ve washed your hands religiously, you eat healthy foods and exercise regularly, but even if you take all possible precautions, you may still give in to the flu. Make sure you know what to do in the event that you come down with the flu.
Look out for symptoms.
Just because you’re feeling crumby doesn’t necessarily mean that you have the flu. When you come down with the flu, patients usually experience the following:
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Congestion
- Muscle or body aches
- Headaches
- Fatigue
If you experience these symptoms you likely have the flu, but you should visit your doctor for confirmation.
Be wary of complications.
While the flu makes most people feel under the weather for a few days, it can affect others more severely. To those who have weaker immune systems, the flu can be deadly. Symptoms can lead to sinus infections to pneumonia. Be sure to look out for more severe symptoms in children, pregnant women, and older adults.
Take action to isolate the virus.
If you’re ill, take responsibility. Do your best to prevent spreading your germs. Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, dispose of your tissues properly, and don’t venture out if you don’t have to. You’ll reduce the risk of getting others sick and will help your body rest.
